During the past winter and early spring, Lake James State Park embarked on a restoration project to improve habitat and aesthetics in the Paddy’s Creek Area parking lot. Thanks to a generous grant through the North Carolina Wildlife Federation, a total of more than 3 acres of hardpacked, eroded and invasive-choked berms separating the parking tiers were tilled, smoothed and reseeded with a mixture of native plant seeds. It is hoped that over the course of the next few growing cycles, the banks will heal with a flush of bunch grasses and flowers that areappropriate to this region.
